Once widespread, the Critically Endangered Yellow-naped Amazon (Amazona auropalliata) has suffered dramatic declines as forests disappear and wild birds and chicks are taken for the illegal pet trade.
With an estimated 1,000–2,500 mature birds remaining, protecting every nest and every new generation matters.
World Parrot Trust and our partners are working alongside local communities to safeguard wild nests, install and monitor nest boxes, deter poaching, track populations, rescue and release trafficked parrots, and give more chicks the chance to take their first flight.
In Honduras, these efforts are already making a difference. On Guanaja, 70 chicks fledged from 30 protected nests in 2025, while a growing community nest-box program on Roatán is creating more safe places for parrots to breed.
